Ideas on Greene County Race Relations 1855 – 1870


Admission is free. Donations will be gladly accepted.

Catherine Kidd Wilson, Director of the Greene County Historical Society, will present “And Thus the Inconsistency: Ideas on Greene County Race Relations 1855 – 1870”. Dr. Kizito Mary Nakizito, (Sr), Associate Professor of English Composition and Literature at Wilberforce University, will make a presentation on the life of Col. Charles Young the third African American to graduate from the United States Military Academy, the first African American to achieve the rank of Colonel, Buffalo Soldier, and Educator at Wilberforce University. Following the presentation, there will be an audience and staff discussion regarding the potential for the creation of an outdoor drama based on the life of Col. Young.

At the conclusion of each performance, there will be an audience “talk back” session with the cast, crew, and playwrights in attendance.

Interpretation services for the deaf will be provided with one week notice of the performance you wish to attend.

The play writing festival will be held in outdoor theatre venues. It is recommended that patrons come prepared for the possibility of cool weather. Patrons are advised to visit this wesite for updated information about weather and the performances.
